The two mountain groups ly facing each other across Loch Treig and were done on the same day, returning to the starting point after completing the first two then climbing again to finish the second pair in the afternoon.

The peaks on the west of Loch Treig are called the Easains and I may well have climbed at least one of them before when I completed a traverse of the Grey Corries, Aonachs and Ben Nevis. But to make sure I thought I would do them again!

Weather

Mist in the morning but good visibility later

This was my first munro day of 2014 and so as usual on these occasions, the first peak, Stob a’Choire Mheadhoin was a re-calibration exercise in terms of both the scale of the ascents as well as my navigation capabilities. It was good to be back in the hills but the first two peaks were climbed in thick mist so I did not get the chance to see the views across to the Aonachs and Ben Nevis. The route taken is given on Steven Fallon’s site and is a very staight forward up down, up down affair. Having climbed both peaks, it was a quick descent back down to the car for lunch and a stock up the energy reserves for the next two peaks of the day. The mist cleared and the views in the afternoon were much better than the morning. The peaks in east of Loch Treig have long grassy and heathery summits. It was quite a long day for my first after a considerable break but it was great to get started on climbing the eastern munros, the final set of munros left for me to tackle.
